John Quong worked as a lawyer in Calgary, but his real passion was for comic books and collectibles. So while on sabbatical he decided to take the leap and open up his own store in his hometown of Airdrie. That was in 1990 and Treasure Cove Comics and Collectibles has been a mainstay for collectors ever since. “The community accepted me in,” says John. “We did a flourishing business from the get-go so I thought, 'If I can just follow my dream and my passion instead of going back to the city to do real work, why not?'”
Community is very important to John. He has always been involved in the Airdrie school and sports system through coaching basketball and lacrosse. “I have two kids that have gone through the school system and played on sports teams, so we know lots of families,” he says. “We have a strong connection with the schools and we donate and help the local schools and sports teams.”
