When Derek Brown started his one-man, one-car driving school back in 1970, the Calgary Transit bus driver had no idea his name would be associated with high-quality driver education 40 years later. He sold the business in 1983, and it changed hands again in 2002. The fleet has grown from one vehicle to 18, including six big trucks. However, Brown’s name has remained a prominent part of the school’s brand. Close to 2,400 people a year sign up for its courses on everything from basic driver exam preparation to driving 18 wheelers with 18 gears.
