“We treat people like family, as if they’re coming into our home,” says Nick’s Steakhouse and Pizza owner Mark Petros. The Calgary restaurant has kept that commitment to family since his Greek-born father Nick Petros first opened the doors in 1979. It’s one of the city’s oldest and most beloved dining institutions, with generations of families returning for big, beefy steaks and rich, deep crust pizzas.
Mark Petros bought the restaurant from his parents in 2000. He has been working at Nick’s from the beginning, and can remember the early days when the whole family would pitch in, vacuuming the floors and setting the tables, working dawn until dusk. His father Nick has stepped back from running the restaurant, taking on an advisory role, says Mark. On any given day, however, you can still see him, sporting his iconic moustache, greeting guests at the door.
My wife and I went for our anniversary supper here and OMG, we were so happy with everything there!!! Such fantastic food and great service, I would highly recommend Nicks to anyone. We will definitely go back. Great place.
