Longtime friends and Calgarians Mark Adolf and Darren Malin are idea people. “We would brainstorm the craziest, greatest, coolest — and sometimes horrible — business ideas,” Mark says. “All the while doing completely different things with our lives.”
This changed one day as they talked on Darren’s porch about furniture. Darren had become acquainted with the US-based business Resource Furniture, which focuses on space solutions and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes. “The environmental aspect piqued our interest,” Mark says. “But we were also impressed by the environmental emphasis of European companies. We are proud to represent brands and sell products we know are made by factory workers who possess a quality of life similar to ours.”
Armed with the stronger environmental controls in many European countries, Mark and Darren brought a new furniture movement to Alberta. “We approached Resource Furniture New York with our interest in representing the Resource brand in Alberta,” Mark says. “Then in 2011, they contacted us and we got the ball rolling.”
