Soil Kings started in one of the most Canadian ways possible: with two men having a discussion in a hockey locker room. Terry Schulthies and Murray Slough played in a local league and started talking about going into business together. At first, there was a slight misunderstanding. “Terry asked me if I wanted to get into the loam business,” Murray, a former horse racing track announcer, recalls with a laugh. “I thought he said ‘a loan business.’ I was imagining something totally different.”

More accurately, Terry wanted to work with Murray to expand his existing landscape supply company. Murray knew he could help create a business that met Calgary’s needs, and it quickly became a success. “When we started out, we had one screener and one loader,” Murray says. “We now have two screeners, four loaders and 10 trucks making deliveries in Calgary and the surrounding area.”

    Customer service is outstanding. Small choice of product but they cover all the basics at the cheapest prices I’ve found in Calgary. This is a fabulous place to get your landscape product.
