Krysta Tatchett and her mom Kate Argyle were shopping around for children’s clothes for Krysta’s newborn twins. They quickly realized how expensive kids’ clothes are, and that finding stuff for twins in secondhand shops is nearly impossible. That led to them launching Twice Bearly Childrens Boutique. Opening their own business in Hillhurst gave the mother-daughter duo the flexibility to spend more time with the twins. “We had them here every day when we first opened,” says Krysta. “We’re able to schedule our shifts so I still get a lot of time with them outside of the store. So does my mom.”
Twice Bearly Childrens Boutique carries used clothes and toys by top-of-the-line brands. The boutique-style space features well-organized racks and a special activity area where children can play while you shop. Krysta is a member of the twin and triplet club herself, so the shop does carry a lot of duplicate items. This has brought in some underserved customers. “Word spread like wildfire in the twin and triplet market, so we ended up having a lot of twin moms buy and sell to the store. It took off from there,” says Kate.
