Penny Tappenden is a mother of three boys and the owner of Just For Fun Video Games. For years, this beloved family business has been buying and selling video games to and from the Edmonton gaming community. “People call me the video game lady, but I haven’t played a video game here yet,” laughs Penny.
She insists it’s a business that has survived because the whole family pitches in when required. Penny and one of her sons are devoted to the business full time, while her other two sons have full-time job commitments outside of the shop, though they still help when and where they can.
“We offer the original old-school gaming experience,” Penny says. This means Just for Fun Video Games deals in hard-to-find games and systems such as Atari, Sega and Nintendo to name a few. Understandably, it’s not always easy to keep a good selection of collectible retro video games in stock, but Penny’s dominance in the market has helped her to develop a relationship with local buyers and sellers. “When you have been here as long as I have, people in the community know you and come to you when they are ready to sell their collectibles,” notes Penny.
