“My husband Marcel and his brother Bruce are fourth generation bakers,” Michelle Hooimeyer says. “Their father Martin bought Grandin Bakery in 1976.”
Martin Hooimeyer had been baking since the age of 13 in his home country of Holland. He learned from his father, grandfather, and eventually in a bakery school. He immigrated to Canada in the 1960s and eventually bought Grandin Bakery.
Today, Michelle, Marcel, Bruce, and his wife Maryke, bake using the traditional methods and recipes passed down through their family. People from all over the Edmonton metro area come to their location in St. Albert to enjoy their fresh-baked treats.
