Barbara-Jo McIntosh is an award-winning bookseller, supporter of all things culinary, an author and owner of Barbara-Jo's Books to Cooks, a fixture on the Vancouver food and literary scenes. More than just a cookbook store, Barbara-Jo’s is “a library dedicated to the culinary arts. We cover everything from the history of food to growing food, butchering animals and making beer and wine — everything to do with food and drink.”
Barbara-Jo was inspired to open Books to Cooks by a cookbook shop in London's Notting Hill. “I read about this cookbook shop which had a kitchen in it and then I went and saw it and researched it and other stores and created a model I thought would work in my community,” she explains.
They only sell cook books. What a fantastic selection and such knowleadgeable staff. They also hold regular cooking events where they cook from one of the books. Schedule is on their website.
Barbara-Jo is the kindest person I have ever met. She so kindly let us do a cooking demonstration and interview for CBC Radio (2007) and for APTN (2011). Her store has the greatess variety of cookbooks. I love purchasing cookbooks from her store.
