When brothers Mike and Evan Doan started brewing small batches of beer for friends and family in their Vancouver home, they never imagined one day owning their very own brewery. But after touring Portland one summer, and experiencing the city’s vibrant craft beer culture, the brothers got hooked on the brewing business. A few years later, they opened East Vancouver's Doan's Craft Brewing with longtime friend, Kevin Sharpe.
“When we opened, Evan was the only one with commercial brewing experience,” says Mike with a laugh. But the trio soon mastered their craft, and their passion and skill for brewing simple yet delicious ales, stout, IPA and other varieties now attract tourists and regulars alike to the intimate Powell Street brewery.
“It’s not unusual to have a line-up out the door,” says Mike, who points to the constant demand for beer as the reason for why it's “always super fresh.”
