Aaron Ash’s first exposure to animal rights was back in high school when he was listening to punk rock music. He had become interested in yoga, meditation and Buddhism and with those practices came a newfound understanding of non-violence thinking. “I eventually realized vegetarianism and organic food was the answer to quite a lot of the world’s problems,” says Aaron, now a charismatic chef and founder of Gorilla Food, Vancouver’s original 100% raw food restaurant.
This realization led Aaron to adopt an organic raw vegan food lifestyle. He moved from Saskatchewan to Vancouver in the late 1990s, at a time when vegetarian food options were still a rarity, and worked at a vegan juice bar. That when inspiration for Gorilla Food struck.
From its humble beginnings as just a take-out window, Gorilla Food has since grown into two friendly hangouts, each offering a great selection of healthy raw food, shakes and desserts. It's also a catering and wholesale company.
