Speedy service at lunch. Good hot food. My entree was tasty and very spicy: excellent. My friend had noodles with the entree and it was very nicely done.
They re-opened recently after a month long renovation. Place looks great, although we rarely eat there. It is our go-to place for chinese take out. Large, meaty portions of all the american-chinese classics, with some seafood and house specialities.
Piggy came to this restaurant with expectations. Great expectations set by one of his Vietnamese friends. Expecting authentic Vietnamese food, Piggy instead was in for a surprise when the menu looked a lot more like from a North American Chinese takeout. Oink!
Piggy sat down on one of the few tables, near the window and took a long hard stare at the menu. There must be something on here that would distinguish this place. As he sipped the Lipton Green Tea which the waitress\cashier\bus girl\floor manager brought finally something was revealed.
At the bottom of the lunch special menu was the Wonton Noodle soup. Sounds simple and the best way, thought Piggy, to judge a restaurant is on how well they can make their simplest items.
The soup was fantastic, chunky pieces of pork, dumplings, noodles, good stock and a few veggies here and there. With the addition of few spoons of spicy sauce, Piggy was able to gulp down the whole bowl of soup and drink the liquid.
Burp! The rich soup and spicy combination relieved all symptoms of the impending cold he had been suffering from all morning.
First of all, this place was constantly busy with takeout orders. Those customers seemed to have a good friendly rapport with the staff so they're probably regulars. So takeout is probably the way to go here but I ate in so ....
I waited for quite a while to be seated and for my order to be taken, simply because the two member wait staff was busy with takeout orders or phone orders or who knows what. Also, my water was empty after my soup but didn't get refilled until my meal was done and my dining companion didn't get water at all. The waitress was very cordial but I was certainly priority #291 for her.
The hot and sour soup was exceptional. The chicken balls were good. The egg roll was as expected. The Chicken Chop Suey and Fried Rice ended up EXTREMELY salty after soy sauce was added.
In retrospect, this meal would have been great if I had it for takeout and added my own low-sodium soy sauce.
