One of the hidden gems in the GTA for Fish and Chips. I drive 40 minutes from home just to come here for their Halibut and Chips. The fish is cooked perfectly and super flaky.
The menu is also kid friendly, my picky picks ate chicken/fries and clams/fries - both with an empty plate at the end. A definite must try if you are in the area (or even if you aren't it is worth the drive!)
Great food, great staff! staff are always willing to help you with what you need! they do half their business on fridays! get in there fast to beat the line! been going there for 20 years!
Went in with my daughter who has a seafood allergy. The staff were amazing and cooked her food in the fish fryer in stead of the seafood fryer, so she could still enjoy the delicious food without having to worry about having an allergic reaction. Very home environment in the restaurant, and the food is fantastic. Thanks again to the Applewood staff for making our visit enjoyable.
I usually send my husband to go if he wants the fish and chips from this restaurant. I notice when I go that the lady only smiles at wasps = whities. I am white but get looked down at from this female owner. One of her sons, asked all the previous customers if they wanted; ketchup and tartar with their take-out meals. When it was my turn, he asked me if I wanted any condiments, so I humoured him & said, what's that--condiments ? He said, with a big smirk, oh, just ketchup and mayonnaise, etc. I said, oh okay. Then he gave a big smirk to the female owner & she said something like, I told you so, and smiled herself. I also notice when my husband, who is more English looking goes on his own, the portions are more than what I ever come home with.
New to the area, this restaurant was highly reccommended by our neighbours. My husband and I with our 2 kids decided to go in for dinner to check it out, and it was amazing !! The place was really cute, kid friendly. We ordered the Family Pack, all the fish they use is wild caught. Fantastic value! My kids, who are very picky eaters ate their whole meal. I highly reccommend it, check it out if your in the area.
For this to be considered the "best" restaurant in mississauga really discounts restaurantica which is really usually very reliable. The fish at this place is of the frozen, from a box, deep fried standard.
However for the clientele which is mostly 3rd, 4th generation canadians high liner fish sticks and fries is as good as it gets i guess.
Been coming every friday or saturday for years. Get the family pack to go. $30 to serve a family of 5 cant beat that deal anywhere else. Always busy and the atmosphere is great. Both are signs that they know how to provide excellent service and food. Be sure to visit if you haven't had the chance!
you may have excellent food and you may have been around for 28 years - but its time to make some changes. Newsflash - its 2011 - time to add other methods of payment....debit? credit? yes i realize there's a fee that businesses must pay for these services but it only adds to business! very few places are cash only .... please make the effort to add alternate payment methods..when i was there it was 6:00 on a saturday...the only other customer was one elderly lady waiting for take out. nobody dining in. its time to update - and get some room spray so the smell of old spoiled grease doesnt hit you as you walk in.
We came across Applewood Fish and Chips while out for a drive and we're very glad we did. Ordered take-out haddock and chips. The chips were very good and the fish was excellent. The fish was flaky and the batter was light and crisp - done just right. We'll definitely be back and will dine in next time.
Such a great environment. Usually take out every Friday but decided to eat in. I totally recommend it! The service was great and the food was great as usual. Also they're open Christmas Eve so perfect time to get some fish and chips for the family dinner. I'll be there Friday hope to see you there!
I have been stopping by this place on a regular basis once a week. Fast and Friendly service!! But most important, they have the best fish n chips in the GTA and an amazing price. I've travelled up and down East Coast Canada from New Foundland, PEI, Cape Breton, New Brunswick, to Nova Scotia. In fact, I've eaten at all the Fish n Chips places in Mississauga. Applewood is as close as it gets to the best of all those places I've had Fish and Chips on the East Coast. 3 Haddock and chips, Staff were very knowledgeable about the product in helping my wife and i make our decision. DEFINITELY return with more friends and family.
Ive lived in the applewood area my whole life and have been coming to this place for 10 years plus. Every friday my I pick up a family pack for myself 2 kids and my wife and its the best deal in town and the quality is great. You can never find a replacement for quality. Everyone has a smile on when you go inside the owners run a phenomenal business and have been for 28 years. Great job I recommend it to everyone.
Had the fish and chips special, the place is quite rundown and tacky, food is over rated as it was nothing special. Price was inadequate, same quality as a 3.99 fish n chips in cooksville.
My wife son and I were in a few days ago after my son's hockey game. It was around 7 30 and the restaurant closed at 8 that day, Even near the end of the night, the food and the service were both great. My son loved the food and so did my wife and I. We will definatly be back,
I was driving home after work one evening, and decided to drop in. The owners recomended a haddock and i tried it and i really enjoyed it. I will be sure to visit again. Fresh and fast.
