Got rained out camping and was looking for a warm place with great food and we found it at Allan's Fireside Grill. Food was delicious, staff were freindly and welcoming and more than accomodating with our messy 13 month old daughter. Would highly recommend it.
This is a good spot to grab a drink and indulge a pub food craving. The menu is predictable, quesadillas, wings, sandwiches, etc. just like nearly every other restaurant in the area. The difference here is that the place is clean, nicely decorated, and kid-friendly. It is easy to assume that most of the menu is frozen or pre-made, but our waitress was unsure when we asked. Service was efficient, portions a good value, and I like the patio. I could easily spend more afternoons here in the summer.
I decided to try one of their signature dishes, which is the Fireside Pepper Sirloin Steak (or something along those lines as I'm not 100% on the name of the dish). The steak was prepared with plenty of pepper and was cooked to slightly further done than I was expecting when ordering it medium-rare but it was from an excellent cut of beef and as such it had just the right texture, being both tender and moist without feeling greasy. An excellent steak.
The steak comes with mixed veggies (baby carrots, cauliflower, etc) which appeared and tasted as though they were steamed from frozen, which while not terrible, left me unimpressed.
I ordered the garden salad with their citrus vinaigrette. The salad was fresh and crisp although I don’t think I would order the dressing again as it just didn't seem to flow with the rest of the meal, but as I chose the dressing, that can only really be blamed on me. The salad also came with a fifth of a tomato and the most massive slice of cucumber that I have ever seen; I prefer a salad that is a mix of the veggies rather than lettuce flanked by gigantic versions of the rest of the garden so this will lower my rating of this restaurant.
The atmosphere was comfortable without losing its sense of class. It was a bit noisy but I attribute this to being placed across from the bar. The seats by the front windows are much quieter as was experienced in my previous visit.
The service was around a 5/7. Our waitress was fairly attentive without becoming annoyingly omnipresent. There was one instance when the drinks took a little longer than was necessary to arrive but generally pretty good.
The pricing is exactly where one would expect from a steakhouse, and matches quite well to the decor and style of building. However I do believe that $6.50 for a pint of Guinness is unnecessarily expensive.
This Restaurant warrants an 8 out of 10 as it is a restaurant that I can see myself returning to when something better than pub-grub is desired.
