We came at the time servers were switching over and it took forever for someone to greet us and take our order. We ordered drinks and 20 minutes later a different server dropped them off. I ordered a greek salad. It was a hunk of iceburg lettuce half of which was brown and soggy, huge pieces of tomatoes and italian, not greek dressing. Calamari was overcooked, not fresh. We had to keep reminding the server to get our drinks, after 20 minutes, had to go to bar and pick up drink ourselves as it had been sitting in wait for server to pick it up. Place was dead, no excuse. Nice atmosphere but not quality experience, bad service, awful food, won't go again.
the food was pretty good - although pricey. but no food is worth waiting a really long time for. there were two of us and we both ordered salads to start, which took 45 minutes to come out. our waitress didn't know anything about their wine selection. The service was too terrible to withstand to go there again, even though the food was okay. This would be a great restaurant for anyone who does not care about the service they receive.
I have never felt so degraded by management ever in my life. They are not professional and lack in communication skills. The service is terribly slow. The food was good but not good enough to go back and be treated that way. DO NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone who want to feel respected as a paying customer.
We live in Westfort so not too often do we dine in Port Arthur but we decided on something different. We were very impressed with the decor, food and service. My only recommendation is, it took a while for us to find your establishment. You have a hidden gem which you should advertise more. The food is made right from scratch and although I don't remember my servers name, a server working (Riley) who I used to work with, recommended some dishes and all n' all it was a great experience and we will be back.....we really liked the garlic ranch dip...so much flavour.

I was recommended this place by a local at the hotel we were staying at. We were not disappointed. There was a live jazz band playing to a packed house. It was loud and busy, but I enjoyed it. Managed to get a table without a reservation, luckily. Food was awesome, I had the steak and shrimp. Would definitly come back here, if I'm ever through Thunder Bay again. The only gripe I suppose was the service was a little slow. Although it was very busy.
On a whim we decided to go to Gargoyles for the cool name instead of the Prospector. We did not regret the choice. The place had great music, awesome decor, and a menu that was different enough to be creative but not too different to be weird. My girlfriend and I were passing through Thunder Bay and this place is a definite recommendation to anyone else that wants a great dinner for a reasonable price.
Note: The entrees were a little more expensive than the sandwiches we ordered.

This is the perfect place to go for lunch. Two of us split the caesar and fries and I also had the soup. The soup was surpisingly tasty, since I usually don't like the soups from these kinds of restaurants and the fries were, without exaggeration, the best fries I have ever had. They serve them with a garlic aeoli and it is amazing. I don't know what they put on them, but they should be famous for those things!..the caesar was also very tasty, the dressing has a strong garlic flavour which I like and the food is exceptional for the price. I recommend it.
I am not from Thunder Bay and was there for a night. I was looking forward to going to The Keg but one of my friends told us that Gargoyles is better than The Keg so we tried it. They had a blues band playing that night. There were 4 of us and we had a blast. The service and food was excellent. We could not have desert because we were too stuffed. I hope it's that great the next time I go. I'm definately hooked now and addicted to their brushetta and ceaser salad.
One of the best in Thunder bay,this restaurant has improved dramatically with a huge improvement in the wait staff...it seemed prior that they never had enough people on the floor and it made it feel slow,but Doug has taken care of that and it is truly one of the best places to go in Thunder bay
The entire experience was amazing! I'd passed this place so many times without venturing in...a mistake on my part. Service was a tad slow, but to be expected when you pop in on a Friday night without reservations. I'm more likely to chop off my own foot than to fail to return to this establishment again.

We were suppose to go to another resturant, but they had no credit card or interact service at the time, so we decided to walk around to see what else was around the neighbourhood. We then saw Gargoyles and decided to check it out. The service was amazing, the food was even better and the atmosphere was just spectacular. Reading the previous posts makes me wonder where exactly these people went as they seemed to be completely off base. The waitress we had was great and was always making sure that we were taken care of. Plus, they had live music which added to the touch. The meal was great, the steak was to my specifications and the shrimp was great and same with the veggies and potatoes. I will for sure recommend this to the rest of my family and friends to go check out. I will for sure be going back, no questions asked.

Okay so this place looks pretty neat- and most of the time the food is decent. But their service is TERRIBLE.
Ordered soup and a wrap. It was a vegetable cream soup that was watery, separated and tasted extremely sour. The waitress (some older, cranky looking woman) grabbed a spoonful of it, sniffed
it, PUT THE SPOONFUL BACK and said- hmm smells fine to me, maybe you just don't like vegetables?
I'm serious- this soup looked like it had been sicked up by a cat.

Well, I've eaten here many times with friends and family, however the couples we were with had never been. So of coarse we ordered the entire app menu, and yes it was amazing. The food here is always full of flavour and beauty. Thank you. The only thing I would recomend is getting some wait staff, a place of this caliber should have way higher standards!!!!!!!!!!!
Where to begin!...Gargoyles defines class and warmth. The menu is dynamic and unique...not to mention fantastique! The atmosphere is sophisticated yet relaxed and comfortable. Every time I enter I am met with warm greetings and accomadating standards. The staff are genuinely friendly and often remember details of previous visits. Saturdays are a key night to plan a night out with friends to experience the great musical acts featured. I highly recommend taking in all that this great establishment has to offer!

After reading some of these reviews, I chuckled. Some people will complain about everything just to be mean. This restaurant is one of the most consistent in Thunder Bay and has the friendliest atmosphere. Frankly, I would not be distraught nor would I complain if a server spent a little extra time with the next guy as perhaps he/she was just doing his/her job! I'm sure many customers are chatty and expect that! Gargoyles is wonderful and the odd person that cannot appreciate that is missing out on a great experience! Too bad for them! I have always had great times there and will continue to do so...
