Have always had a keen enjoyment of this restaurant since my wife introduced me to it 6-7 years ago! As others have noted, the interior decor could be improved upon. The wait-staff are also overtaxed when it is busy (quite frequently)...and usually a bit of a wait when ordering for take-out (so order an hour or two in advance so not to be disappointed...on New Years...order in the morning for dinner pickup time!!)...the spring rolls are excellent as is the chicken satay! Other main dishes are great also depending on your preferences. After having tried a few Thai places in Toronto...our Thunder Bay Thai restaurant is definitely much better!!! Pricing is very reasonable also!
I'll start with the poorer part of the restaurant (which isn't even really that bad) which is the service. It's not that they aren't trying, they just don't have the amount of workers needed.
The food was outstanding, we got spring rolls, soups, and our meals --> all of which were outstanding! I'd recommend this little spot to anyone!
Oh, and the prices were very good to boot!
I/we eat here probably bi-monthly and the food is always served hot to our table. The spring rolls are delicious and the cook seem to accomodate that I don;t want green peppers in my meal. In the dozen times or mor ethat I have eaten here I have only had my rice come out clumped together ONCE~!
They have new chairs and a new seating arrangement, rather liked the booths at the front...oh well..thinsg change.
I love this place, but its not perfect. The staff are always friendly, but overwhelmed. Service is slow at any time of day due to what I can only assume are catering and takeout orders. With some reassessment and staff considerations, this place would be as perfect as their food. Even with their recent price increases their food is a bargain! I only wish they'd hire more waitstaff for better, timelier and more involved service.
I had the chinese mushroom stir fry and was blown away by the flavour. I have heard of this restaurant many times as they usually have a cart at local festivals, but you have to go to the restaurant to really appreciate the variety of meals available.
I love that they have the takeout option of letting you bring your own containers (and you get a discount on your meal if you do) and the portions are very good. For a group of people who were somewhat leery of trying a new place, we were reassured by the menu that has a great description of every dish, as well as clear warnings about the level of spice in certain dishes. I highly recommend this place and will continue to go there often.
Quite honestly a gem in Thunder Bay. The food is absolutely amazing to say the very least. This was my first experience with Thai food and it was completely enjoyable.
While the service was a bit slow (due to it being near close and the place being packed) the food certainly made up for any shortcoming in this department. Aesthetically speaking, the restaurant could use a few decorative upgrades, but overall there was a quaint, cozy feel to the place.
The Kaeng Pet Saparot (sweet and hot red curry with chicken and pineapple) was absolutely amazing. I could not get enough of that unique flavour. The medium spice in this curry was done to perfection, providing an even balance of sweet and hot.
The Thai Spring Rolls were fresh and prepared with care. The taste was right on the money.
The Pad Thai (which is composed of fresh rice noodle, stir fried with tofu, egg in a tangy spice mix. Crushed peanut, sliced lime, peanut sauce and green onions on the side) lived up to the expectations I had grown to quickly have because of the other foods I had just tried. It is a very unique flavour that one simply must have more of.
The portion sizes were more than fair as I left feeling quite satisfied and full.
I would highly recommend this restaurant (eat in or take out) to anyone! Perfectly prepared, unique food at a reasonable price! I will be back soon!
