The four owners of Otto’s Berlin Doner in Kensington Market came upon their idea for a German street food restaurant, or "doner", through their other line of work. “We use to throw events and parties,” says Konrad Droeske, who along with Thomas Masmejean, Nancy Chen, and Matt Eckensweiler would travel to Germany to book music acts and DJs for their shows back in Canada. “You would see these doner shops on every corner. We fell in love with the city and with the food.”
The group had never run a restaurant before so there were some steep learning curves, but they leaned on what made them successful in their other ventures. “A lot of things didn’t work in the beginning,” says Thomas. “When you start in a new line of work there are a lot of things that you don’t expect, but it’s the way you handle them and go forward that will make or break your business.”
General quality of food is acceptable, just be careful with chichken cuz sometimes they add overcooked meet in the sandwich. Also, They call it Doner which is Turkish style but not the same actually.
