As you drive down the long, vine-laden path to Norman Hardie Winery and Vineyard, you experience a sort of magical feeling. You’re already in Prince Edward County (PEC). The skies are full of fire and ice, the landscape is somehow lush and barren at the same time, and there are many moments in a day when you forget you’re in Canada all together. Still, Norman Hardie’s convivial compound is something special, even amidst all that beauty.
This place, this wine-making, pizza-slinging, tourist-seducing, celebrity-luring, hot bed of activity is open seven days a week. The wood-fired pizza, however, is only available from May until Thanksgiving weekend. Norman Hardie produces wine that has received tremendous praise from critics and connoisseurs alike. With PEC’s limestone enriched soil, and the mature French vines that were imported at its inception, Norm’s vintages are a perfect blend of old world and new.
