Some people know early on what they want out of life. Munira Nanji, owner of Tres Xhic Salon and Spa, is one of those people. “To own a salon was my dream since I was a teenager,” says Munira. “I think I decided when I was about 16 that I wanted to be a hairstylist. That came from my own hairstylist who used to cut my hair in Pakistan. I wanted to be like her. I wanted to go into that industry.”
Her father wasn’t thrilled with the idea at the time, and insisted she attend college. So, Munira enlisted in a business program in Pakistan, and she waited. And then she, along with her parents, immigrated to Canada. Years later, that childhood dream became a reality when she enrolled in Marvel Beauty School. “If someone says that hair school is easy ... It was difficult. For me, it did not come easy. But you have to have perseverance in what you want to do, and you have to work hard at it. You just put in your hours. You work until you make it. And that’s what I did,” says Munira. “At the age of 34, I went to hairstyling school, and at the age of 41, I opened my salon.”
