Arrived in Aug 2008 while staying with Val & Bill.. the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing. The staff and Steve the owner always make you feel like family. We all felt that we had been before.Great food and choice, nothing is too much trouble. We visited every day for 2 weeks...i recommend the Honey Brown.......we didnt get back to Canada in 2009, lets hope this year..
Primarily a bar, this venue serves up a variety of pub grub, but should by no means be considered a restaurant.
Upon entry, visitors are greeted by the dank smell of stale spilled beer. The interior appears worn down, with duct taped seats and graffiti-carving on the walls.
After taking a seat, we were greeted by our server and presented with menus. The menu has a fair variety of pub food. We placed our order, and the wait began.
Two of us ordered hot tea. The taste was watery and metallic, but not weak. When we ordered, the server seemed startled by the request for hot tea, so there's a chance the kettle hadn't been used in a while. We exchanged the tea for fountain drinks, which were about as good as fountain drinks ought to be.
After about a 45 minute wait, the food arrived. First was the "Pick 5" platter ($15). Of the 8-10 options listed, we chose onion rings, mozzarella sticks, jalapeño poppers, deep fried pickles, and snake bites (non-descript fried chicken parts).
There wasn't much to be split between 4 people, especially considering the price. Unfortunately, they didn't even make up for this in quality; the batter on all the appetizers was chewy and hard, comparable to barely-cooked pasta, and the flavour overall was nothing spectacular. In their favour, the food was served piping hot, and wasn't greasy at all.
Next came the 12-slice "Bianco Pizza", ($13) raved about in other reviews. As far as first impressions go, this pizza wasn't out to make a good one; with its bland, colorless appearance, and flavour to match, this pizza was a huge disappointment. Again, the pizza wasn't greasy, but after reading other reviews, I was hoping for something with at least a little flavour.
Finally, one in our party decided to avoid the pizza and order the Shrimp in a Basket ($8). The portion was fair for the price, but again, the quality was similar to a microwave meal. The batter was flavourless and chewy, and the seafood sauce was excessively spicy with an overpowering flavour. The fries that accompanied this dish were hardly even fast food quality.
The service was so-so. Our waitress was somewhat attentive, and while she wasn't rude, she certainly wasn't bubbly. This place should only be looked at as a bar, with a few food items for those who have already had a bit to drink.
THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE SOUP WAS COLD AND THE SERVICE WAS EVEN WORSE THEN THE FOOD. I FOUND THE RESTAURANT IT SELF VERY DIRTY. THE MAN BEHIND THE BAR WAS VERY RUDE.I WOULD NOT GO BACK EVEN IF THE FOOD WAS FREE.
